Public Law 104-201 extended the time limit for the Department of Defense (DoD) to use voluntary reduction in force (VRIF) separation provisions. DoD Military Components, Defense Agencies, and their subordinate activities and installations may now offer VRIF to eligible employees through September 30, 2001. Guidance on the use of VRIF was issued by memorandum dated April 15, 1996 (attached).
To track the costs and effectiveness of VRIF, I have asked the Civilian Assistance and
Re-Employment (CARE) office to collect data associated with VRIF separations. CARE representatives
will contact you to develop data submission requirements.
