MEMORANDUM FOR SEE DISTRIBUTION
SUBJECT: Student Career Experience Program (SCEP)

Due to the increasingly competitive job market, we need to explore alternate recruitment methods to attract college students to Army's intern program. One alternative, as discussed at the June 19, 2000, Career Program Policy Committee, is the SCEP program. This program offers summer and/or part-time employment for eligible college students and ultimately upon graduating from college, non-competitive conversion to the intern program.

This program has been piloted by Career Program (CP-16) Engineers and Scientists (Non-Construction) and proven to be a viable recruitment source. While this type of feeder group is not the right fit for every career program, it may be the answer to some of the programs with known recruitment difficulties. A critical consideration is the trade-off of intern dollars to fund the SCEP participants. Since the SCEP program is not resourced within the ACTEDS account, funding must be absorbed from within your current intern allocation.

If you are interested in participating in this program and need regulatory and technical information, please contact Sharon Bailey of my staff at 703-325-0924, DSN 221-0924, or email Sharon.Bailey@(email address expired)
